Society for the Environment

The Society for the Environment (SocEnv) is the independent body that regulates the award of the Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) qualification.  Through its fifteen member bodies, it recognises the expertise and achievements of environmental professionals working throughout the UK and abroad. SocEnv is incorporated by Royal Charter, and seeks to both inform and influence policy at the highest level. The P402 is a proficiency certificate for asbestos surveying and sampling in accordance with the Health and Safety Executive guidance note MDHS100 – Surveying, Sampling & Assessment of Asbestos Containing Materials (July 2001). It is awarded by the British Occupational Hygiene Society.

It provides a background and practical knowledge in the surveying of buildings for the presence of asbestos and any necessary bulk sampling which may be required. It also provides guidance on the management procedures necessary to minimise exposure to any identified asbestos.

EES holders: Tim Elliott, Gareth Mews, Charlie Cooper, Ed Henshaw, Mac McCarron.

Royal Society for the Promotion of Health

To provide sufficient suitably qualified asbestos inspectors, RICS and ARCA (Asbestos Removal Contractors Association) have set up The National Individual Asbestos Certification Scheme (NIACS). Royal Society for the Promotion of Health (RSPH) qualifications have now received QCA accreditation for the Level 3 Certificate in Asbestos Inspection Procedures. Possession of the qualification is a pre-requisite for membership of The National Individual Asbestos Certification Scheme (NIACS).

The UKAS Asbestos Technical Advisory Committee has formally approved the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health (RSPH) Level 3 Certificate in Asbestos Inspection Procedures as an alternative to the BOHS P402 module for asbestos surveyors operating within Inspection Bodies. Tim Elliott holds this qualification.

ISO 9001

Elliott Environmental Surveyors has been awarded the prestigious ISO 9001:2000 certificate of approval for the quality of its management system.

This is an internationally recognised standard for quality management and to achieve it we have been working for some time with Teeside consultants NVQA to design and implement systems to meet its requirements, with the help of grant aid from Business Link.

There followed a tough two day independent scrutiny by a quality assessor from Lloyds Register, nationally and internationally respected for impartiality and high expectations. The management system was examined along with the way we work to see if we met the standard required and happily we passed with flying colours.

Lloyds found that:

‘…the management system is being applied effectively and professionally.’

We want to be one of the best and this is a way of ensuring that our working practices put us ahead of the field.
